So it's 12:01 AM Tuesday morning (although I'm writing this days later
due to exhaustion) and the house is ready for it's 3 mile
journey. The path is going to be off the back of the lot it sits
on now and onto the off ramp for the adjacent highway. About 2
miles later we'll get off the highway and begin to cross a farm that's
been planted, then through the yards of 2 new neighbors and back onto
the street to it's final placement. A few obstacles along the
way, but everyone's confident. I still don't know how long to
expect it to take and that makes me crazy considering I'm used to
absolute deadlines.
We had a tremendous turnout of people. Kids, dogs, old-timers...it was amazing!

Along the highway we had to overhang guardrails, scrape trees, and
maneuver once to avoid a street lamp. We had turned 6 street
lamps, but there was one more we should have done. The house fit
shoulder to shoulder when we got on the actual highway and off the ramp
area.

We made it off the highway about 4am and had to wait about 1/2 hour for
the utilities to drop the next set of lines. They were still
restoring the previous set.
Sadly we hit a snag about 5:30am when a drive axle on the truck hauling
the house snapped in a soft spot of the farm. It happens
sometimes when you're pulling 160 tons across dirt. So everyone
took a break and will begin fixing the truck at noon. We're still
on Tuesday by the way.

It would have made for gorgeous photos seeing the sun come up over the house.

I'd like to give credits to for several of the above photos to Doug from the Baltimore Sun. He and Sandy Alexander both followed the project for many days and the results are fantastic photos and wonderful article.
